The role of copper clad laminate in pcb industry chain

Basic uses of copper clad laminate
Copper clad laminate (CCL) is a kind of board made of wood pulp paper or glass fiber cloth as reinforcing material, soaked in resin, covered with copper foil on one side or both sides, and hot pressed. Copper clad laminate (CCL) is the basic material of electronic industry. It is mainly used for processing and manufacturing printed circuit boards (PCBs), and is widely used in electronic products such as televisions, radios, computers, computers and mobile communications.
As an important basic material for manufacturing printed circuit board (PCB), copper clad laminate (CCL) has four functions: conduction, insulation, support and signal transmission. It also plays a decisive role in PCB performance, machinability, manufacturing cost, reliability and other indicators. However, different application scenarios and different processing links put forward different requirements for the performance index of CCL. Generally speaking, copper clad laminate must meet the comprehensive performance requirements of PCB processing, component installation and whole machine product operation.

Different Types and Applications of Copper Clad Plates
According to different structures, CCLs can be divided into three categories: rigid, flexible and special materials, among which rigid CCLs are not easy to bend and have certain hardness and toughness. The flexible copper clad laminate can be bent to facilitate the assembly of electrical components because it is covered with electrolytic copper foil or rolled copper foil with flexible reinforcing material (film). The diversity of construction materials is mainly to meet the needs of different scenes. Rigid copper clad laminate is usually used in communication equipment, household appliances, electronic toys, computer peripherals, computers, game machines, printers, communication equipment, mobile phone base station equipment, household appliances and other products. Flexible copper clad laminate is usually used in automotive electronics, mobile phones, digital cameras, video cameras, notebook computers and other equipment.
Copper clad laminate industry chain
From the perspective of industrial chain, the main raw materials corresponding to the upstream of copper clad laminate include copper foil, electronic glass fiber cloth and synthetic resin. The downstream is mainly used for printed circuit boards (PCBs), and finally applied to many fields such as computers, communication equipment, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, etc. With the technical upgrading and product replacement in the above-mentioned related fields, especially the rise of 5G technology and new cars, CCL will face a broader market demand in the future. In the industry chain of copper-clad laminate, the cost of copper-clad laminate accounts for 37% of the total PCB cost. From the perspective of cost alone, copper-clad laminate occupies a rather high proportion in the industry.
